Regional Airports

Two regional airports serve McMinn County:  Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) and Chattanooga Lovell Field (CHA).  McGhee Tyson Airport is located within 52 miles of McMinn County and offers non-stop service to 19 locations throughout the U.S.  Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Lovell Field is located within 38 miles of McMinn County and offers non-stop service to 8 locations throughout the U.S.   Air cargo is available through either airports.

International Airports

The closest international airports to McMinn County are Atlanta Hartfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) and Nashville International Airport (BNA).  Atlanta Hartfield-Jackson is located within 157 miles of McMinn County and Nashville International Airport is located within 176 miles.  Atlanta’s international airport is ranked as the world’s busiest airport and serves as a hub for several airlines.

General Aviation

McMinn County has its own general aviation airport. Located along Highway 30 between I-75 and U.S. Highway 411, McMinn County Airport, Athens Air LLC serves as a gateway into McMinn County for visiting manufacturing companies and employees.  The main emphasis of the airport is on business and industrial service.  Seventy five percent (75%) of traffic through the airport is business related.  The remainder is personal or recreational activities.  Three thousand plus operations a year are handled by the airport facility.  The airport is used by many industrial companies between Chattanooga and Knoxville.  The rural setting offers easy access and departure from the facility.  The handling and transportation of freight for local factories are important duties for the airport and its staff.  The airport can accommodate air cargo at hours convenient to industry.  The McMinn County Airport has the longest general aviation runway in the State of Tennessee.
